Family visit to the Wenger Moor,
a National Trust area and bird sanctuary

The Wenger Moor in Köstendorf is one of the largest natural moors in the province of Salzburg. Both children and their parents can discover the different biotopes and types of moor, various sorts of meadowland and small streams. It is a fascinating area and interesting to see how the locals used to cut and use the peat, a countryside full of allure in all seasons.

This moor is a protected area and bird sanctuary, where many plants, which are in danger of extinction, can be found. In addition Wenger Moor is an important breeding site for countless species of birds.
A track around the Wallersee has been built into this Wallersee-Wenger Moor, a European protected area, along which families are informed by means of 6 showcases about the wildlife of the area and many interesting details about the moor, banks of the lake and streams.
