Signposted cycle paths in the Salzburg Lake District
Salzburg Lake District Circular route
All 18 resorts of the region are connected by the Lake District cirular cycling/walking trail. The route runs mainly along several of the original bike tracks through the magnificent countryside of the Salzburg Lake District and has been re-routed to give wonderful views over the lakes. Along the way there are excellent inns and pubs, natural phenomena, distinctive natural features and destinations for excursions. The Lake District circular route can be tackled in one go, or alternatively, in easy stages.
Tannberg Circular Route
The start of this tour is from the church in Köstendorf, north-west of Neumarkt am Wallersee. The track then leads in a northerly direction via Enharting to Lengau. Keeping left it passes by Lochen and the Mattsee lake before reaching the three small lakes, the Egelseen, and the village of Schleedorf. It returns to the starting point of the tour via the Fischbachmühle (mill).
Wallersee Circular Route
This relatively easy tour starts from the church of Maierhof, a small village south of Neumarkt am Wallersee. From here it is possible to make the tour around the lake, either along the west bank or along the east bank. If you start along the west bank, at one point you leave the lake behind in a north-westerly direction and only return to the banks of the lake again in Wallersee-Zell, after about five kilometres. The route takes you then to the town of Seekirchen, to Fischtaging, to Seebrunn, past the Marieninsel to the starting point in Maierhof.
Zuckmayr Circular Route
The tour starts in Sighartstein near Neumarkt am Wallersee and continues past a small mere to Pfongau and south to Wertheim. Following the streams, Steinbach and Aubach, you arrive at Hof Lichtentann, from where you cycle south-west via Altentann to Henndorf, then going north to Oelling and returning to Sighartstein.

Ten Lakes Tour details »
Make the most of the glittering lake world of the Salzburg Lake District and the lakes and mountains area of the Salzkammergut. What could be nicer than to cycle along the banks of the lakes and to enjoy the wonderful countryside at the same time? You can do all this by making the tour through the Salzkammergut and the Salzburg Lake District. Cyclists can start taking in the unique background just a few kilometers away from the city of Salzburg. The undulating countryside around the alpine foothills has an allure of its own. You can cycle through woods and moorland, or to the Silent Night Chapel in Oberndorf and even to the town of Bad Ischl, a favourite of the last Austrian Emperor, Franz- Josef. One actually passes through a world of clichés, which have become reality. The ten lake tour is a combination of relaxation, nature and many highlights, such as the Schafberg mountain and the country manor, Schloss Orth.
