In our hectic time pilgrims experience a renaissance. Religious reasons are not always at the forefront of the trip. Find peace and draw new power is the motto of many pilgrims of today.
One part of the most well-known European pilgrimage route – to the Jacobs route, with the destination of Santiago de Compostela in Spain – also travels through the Salzburg Seenland.
On the way to historical pilgrim’s track
From the north, the pilgrims came up to the Baltikum. From the east from the settlements east of the Danube. Their path lead via Vienna, also often via Mariazell to Salzburg. The path in the Alps lead the pilgrims further along to the Inn along up to it source in Switzerland, in order to incorporate the pilgrimage to St.Moritz or with the trading route over the Arlberg, further to Lake Constance to the direction of St. Gallen. From there it went further via France and finally to Spain – to Santiago de Compostela.
