Surfing and sailing are possible in Mattsee. Because the three Trumer lakes are in a protected area, no motorboats are allowed, but electric, pedal and rowing boats can be hired. There is also a regular service boat called „Seenland“ which sails between the Obertrumersee and the Mattsee. Lakeside beaches can be visited in Mattsee itself and in Gebertsham.

From the air one can see clearly a row of stones just under the surface of the water. It is thought that they are part of a roman road which led between two basins. In Roman times the water level of the lakes was much lower than it is today.
