Neumarkt am Wallersee, recently raised to the status of a town, is surrounded by unspoiled countryside as far as the eye can see and has numerous walking and cycling tracks and paths, with facilities for cross-country skiing and skating.
Down by the lake Wallersee there are boats for hire, a sailing school, swimming area, a camping site and several restaurants serving a diversity of fish, traditional food and special organic meals.
For the culturally-minded there is a unique museum in the Fronfeste. This used to be a prison and many relics of the old judicial system and the criminal history of Neumarkt, looking as far back as the 16th century, can be seen.
Examples of the historical significance of Neumarkt handicrafts can still be found in a small leather works and a millinery. |
