Today the resort of Perwang  forms the border between the provinces of Salzburg and Upper Austria. Many years ago it was the border between Bavaria and  Salzburg, which at that time was ruled by the church and the Prince Bishops, and there was a customs point.  A small customs museum tells the story.  During the eighteenth century the Emperor of Austria stayed in Perwang whilst on a visit to peruse the terrain, which he had newly-acquired from Bavaria.
