Natural Pond & Soul Brew Garden
in Köstendorf

Natural pond in Köstendorf

It is not large, the natural pond in Köstendorf, and yet the children can acquire extensive knowledge here about the typical habitats in Salzburg Seenland.
In the course of the renaturation of the old fire pond, a show and nature experience area was created through a Leader project in Köstendorf.

The circular trail around the Köstendorf nature pond - a nature trail in miniature format - is only 100 m long, but families can still spend a long time here and experience nature. The information desks with numerous movable panels explain, among other things, which animals and plants can be found in the respective habitat. At some panels, which have the motto "Nature explorers on the move", nature can be discovered with all senses with the help of work or play instructions. The nature pond in Köstendorf is only a few steps away from the car park at the municipal office. There are also refreshment facilities in the immediate vicinity.

The Soul Brew Garden

The Wallersee herbal cycle path leads to the Seelenbräugarten, where not only cyclists like to rest in the shade of the large fruit trees.
Until the middle of the 20th century, a large farm belonged to the parish. The servants also had to be provided for. But even in the decades that followed, the parish garden was a special feature.
Through the supervision of the Salzburger Bildungswerk, citizens and pupils are involved in becoming active in the garden themselves.

An information board reveals the secret of how this garden got its name "Seelenbräugarten". This much we want to reveal - the well-known German writer Carl Zuckmayer described the garden of the dean of Köstendorf in detail in his story "Der Seelenbräu" (The Soul Brew) written in 1945 - with a rich variety of vegetables and herbs.
