The village is situated only 17 km from the music festival city of Salzburg. It lies at 551 m above sea level and has about 5000 inhabitants. The highest point is the hill the „ Grossen Plaike“ (1084 m) – here you can enjoy a wonderful view across the pre-alpine region. The Wallersee lake is 5,7 km long, 1,9 km wide and 23 m at the deepest point. It is considered to be the warmest lake in the Salzburg Lake District.
The first Gut Aiderbichl animal sanctuary was started in Henndorf in the year 2000 by Michael Aufhauser.
