Henndorf am Wallersee

Henndorf is an idyllic, peaceful village with  traditions, country life  and cultural events, -  an ideal spot to relax, swim, walk or cycle.

The village is situated only 17 km from the music festival city of Salzburg. It lies at 551 m above sea level and has about 5000 inhabitants. The highest point is the  hill the „ Grossen Plaike“ (1084 m) – here you can enjoy a wonderful view across the pre-alpine region. The Wallersee lake is 5,7 km long, 1,9 km wide and 23 m at the deepest point. It is considered to be the warmest lake in the Salzburg Lake District.

The first Gut Aiderbichl animal sanctuary was started in Henndorf in the year 2000  by Michael Aufhauser.

The well-known author, Carl Zuckmayer, lived and worked here and  wrote that „ he had once„lived in Paradise!“  - His works, „Der Schinderhannes“ and  „Hauptmann von Köpernick“ were also written here in Henndorf.
