Strasswalchen was first mentioned in 789 as „Strazualaha“ and is one of the oldest settlements in the Salzburger Lake District, situated close to the music festival city of Salzburg and also the Salzkammergut lakes and mountains area.
Strasswalchen means holidays for the whole family – with varied sports and leisuretime events, including the „Fantasiana“ fun park, Austria’s largest family fun park, the Burghauser Iceland pony riding-school and the public swimming pool facilities. There are many walking and cycling trails and both the Irrsee and the Wallersee are accessible within 5 – 10 minutes by car.
The parish church of St. Martin, landmark of the town, is visible from near and far. The high altar was built by the well-known sculptor, Meinrad Guggenbichler.
Irrsdorf, a hamlet about 2 km south – east of Strasswalchen, has a subsidiary parish church, dedicated to Maria. A gem in this church is a carved door–wing from the year 1408 depicting the Virgin Mary and saint Elisabeth.
