Henndorf is located at 551 m above sea level and has about 5000 inhabitants. The highest point is the "Große Plaike" (1084 m) with a wonderful view over the entire Alpine foothills.

The Literaturhaus Henndorf brings you close to the Henndorf time of Carl Zuckmayr. The renowned writer moved into the birthplace of the poet Johannes Freumbichler in 1926 - in the so-called "Wiesmühl" Zuckmayr and his family ran an open house for illustrious guests from the literary, film and intellectual scene.

Well-known writers and artists such as Carl Zuckmayer, Johannes Freumbichler, Ödön von Horváth, Stefan Zweig, Max Reinhardt and the brothers Carl and Richard Mayr belonged to the "Henndorf Circle" and lived and worked in the Flachgau community in the north of Salzburg. The association "Literaturhaus Henndorf", founded in 2009, is searching for traces of this great literary past. The Literaturhaus in Henndorf is intended to be an open house of encounter: a place where readings, seminars, workshops, children's and youth programs take place. A house that encourages conversations and discussions and invites you to linger.

The house: For many years, the listed farmhouse in the center of the village presented an appearance in need of renovation. When the association "Literaturhaus Henndorf" expressed interest in the historic building with a concept for its use, with the financial support of the municipality of Henndorf, great commitment of local craft enterprises and great dedication of volunteers, the 300 year old Freumbichlerhaus was renovated according to the specifications of the Office for the Protection of Historical Monuments in style and with great attention to detail. On December 2, 2012, the ceremonial opening of the "Literaturhaus Henndorf" took place.
