The Abbey Museum has been established in the historic rooms of the provostry since 1977 as a place of religious and historical events.
The museum comprises several focal points in twelve rooms equipped for visitors:
Treasury with a copy of the Tassilo chalice, table set for the twelve canons with silver and pewter tableware, painting gallery with works by J. M. Rottmayr. In addition, culturally and historically significant exhibits await visitors: the abbey library with over 3,000 exhibits, including manuscripts and early prints, various documents (for example those from the year 860, which Louis the German, grandson of Emperor Charlemagne, issued to the Mattsee monastery for a donation to the Mattseer missionaries in the East).
Also on display: liturgical silver and gold treasures from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries as well as an astronomical clock from 1704. Two rooms are also presented - one in memory of the musician Anton Diabelli (furnished in Biedermeier style), the second in memory of Prof. Burghard Breitner (also furnished and complemented by Prof. Breitner's surgical cutlery in Siberia and his last medical writings). Worth seeing: the documentation on the Mattseer exile of Saint Stephen Crown of Hungary ... and much more.
The Mattseer Collegiate Church is a beautiful setting for a church wedding. The attractively designed Stiftsplatz is a popular meeting place before the wedding ceremony and for the champagne reception afterwards.
