From the plank
to the boat

What began in 1898 with a simple boat builder is now a family business that combines tradition and modernity. The Steiner boatyard has long been more than just a workshop - it is a living part of Seenland's history, connecting generations of people with a passion for boats and water sports. Until well into the 1960s, the boatyard built its boats using the traditional clinker-built method - each boat made from individual planks, just as Hermann Steiner I had learnt to do. The so-called "Lateiner" boats were particularly well known - elegant boats that were suitable for both sailing and rowing.

Since 2013, new Latins have been built according to historical specifications under the guidance of Mr Steiner Sr. Some of these timeless boats, which were built in the 1950s and 1960s, still exist.

The shipyard's pride and joy is the passenger ship "Seenland". Built in 1998, the 12 metre long and 4 metre wide, purely electrically powered ship offers space for up to 50 passengers. A technical refinement makes the "Seenland" unique: its roof can be lowered so that it can also pass under the Johannisbrücke bridge - and thus open up both the Mattsee and the Obertrumer See with a wonderful view of the Alps.

"Boatbuilding is patience, dedication and the art of creating something living from wood and nails."

"Long-standing, friendly collaboration with sail and motorboat designers is an essential aspect of building exceptional boats."

The Steiner family's boat hire is a real crowd-puller in summer. Around 30 electric, pedal and rowing boats as well as 20 stand-up paddleboards await water sports enthusiasts and those seeking relaxation. From Easter to mid-October, the hire service invites you to enjoy the Mattsee in all its beauty, weather permitting.

The windsurfing and sailing school also starts a new season every year at the end of April. The focus is not only on learning, but above all on having fun. Children from the age of 7 and adults can learn to sail and windsurf here - and those who want to can take the examination for the Austrian Sailing Association's Certificate of Competence A at the end.

After 26 years in operation, the owners TVB Mattsee, TVB Seeham and TVB Obertrum are giving the "Seenland" a general overhaul.

From 1 May 2025, it will once again operate as an excursion boat on the lakes.

There are hop-on hop-off trips, combined offers with excursion destinations and musical accompaniment one Sunday a month.
Whether as a cosy liner, a stylish location for tour groups or for special celebrations such as birthdays and weddings - the "Seenland" will continue to be a place where unforgettable moments are created.
